Have you ever asked, "When is this going to end?" Trials make us stronger. We have to run this race with our eyes set on the goal, not on the ground in front of our feet.

Trials

Have you ever asked "When will this end? When will I get through this trial?" Trust me, I have asked this many times. You think you're all done with one trial, you clean your hands off and you're praising God that you're through with that storm. Then, before you know it, another wave comes in and knocks you off your feet. Frustrating? To say the least.

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging... The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." (Psalm 46:1-2, 7)

This life will never be perfect. Sometimes we assume that someone's life is perfect. Who are we to judge that? Some people are really good at pretending; I know I was for a while, well, somewhat anyway. I heard someone say that everyone is either in a storm, coming out of one, or just about to enter one. That's just how life is. Nothing will be perfect on this side of heaven.

God never said life would be easy. He did say, though, that He would be with us every step of the way. When we are entering our trials, we should pray that He will give us the strength, perseverance, and patience to get through and finish the road before us. When we know that we have someone to help us through the trial, it makes things a little better. God is there every step of the way, aching with us, crying with us, hurting with us.

"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for You." (1 Peter 5:7)

Don't be afraid as you come upon trials. When you see another wave coming, brace yourself to stand up under it. Don't fear. God is with you. He lives within you. "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:7)

Trials make us stronger. Running a mile is pretty difficult if you haven't ran in three years. No matter how hard and strenuous it is though, when you finally finish your goal, you come out stronger than you were before. Getting in shape hurts, but the end result is awesome. The same goes for trials. The hurt that comes with those problems in your life do not feel good, but they are what make you stronger in the end. When you run the races in life, set your eyes on the goal. Don't focus on the ground in front of your feet.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything" (James 1:2-4)

Dear Heavenly Father,
You're with me through every trial. You're with me through the good times. I don't have to invite You because You're already here. You're living inside of me. Help me to rely on Your strength, not my own, as I face the trials that are bound to come in this life. I live in a fallen world and trials will come. Just because I'm a Christian, it doesn't mean my life will be perfect. Help me to focus on Your Kingdom. Then everything is worth battling.

In Your Name,
Amen.
